FROM CONCEPTION TO THE RACETRACK
Ballyhane Stud provides a complete service to the breeding industry. Our services include:
Boarding
An exclusive 12 month boarding service is provided to breeders who wish to avail of the stud’s facilities and expertise. The stud caters for maiden, barren and in foal or foal at foot mares. Mares can be walked out to all Irish stud farms and the stud’s location is ideal, with Kildare only a short 35 minute drive and Tipperary only 50 minutes away. There is also an on-site Veterinarian at the stud to look after boarding mares' reproductive care and treatment on a daily basis.
Foaling
A purpose built foaling barn at the heart of the farm is the base for the stud’s foaling unit. With a 24 hour dedicated foaling watch and experienced foaling staff; newly born foals and their mothers enjoy first class care and attention. Colostrum quality levels can also be checked on site, to ensure that foals have a good, healthy start to life.
Sales Preparation
Ballyhane provide a professional sales preparation service. We pride ourselves in striking the right balance between exercise and nutrition, to produce the best possible outcome at the sales for our clients. We have all the necessary facilities for sales preparation including lunge rings, horse walkers and grass paddocks for hand walking.
Consigning
Ballyhane consign yearlings to all the major sales around Europe. With almost thirty years of experience within the industry, we understand the importance of a sales day and the work involved in making sure the sale of a horse is a smooth process.
Pre-Training
A full breaking, pre-training, schooling and resting service is available at Ballyhane Stud. Jane Foley oversees the training yard at the stud and brings a wealth of experience to the team. Young horses are given the time they need and are not rushed throughout the breaking process, to ensure they are learning as they develop and grow.
The pre-training yard caters for the breaking and pre-training of Clipper Logistics’ juveniles as well as catering for their older horses when they go on breaks, before they are sent to their prospective trainers for the season ahead. 2019 saw Group and stakes winner Soldier’s Call, Royal Ascot Jersey Stakes winner Space Traveller and dual Grade 2 winning chaser Castlegrace Paddy all pre-trained at Ballyhane.
Breeze-Up
Ballyhane have had proven success at breeze-up sales for many years. The stud’s first draft of breeze up horses to be sold included Royal Ascot winner Rainfall, who sold for £140,000 at the Guineas Breeze-up sale, as well as multiple Group and stakes winner Rose Blossom, who went on to win six weeks later and break the Hamilton Park track record. With a team of experienced riders, two year olds are given the best possible opportunity of developing into sharp, balanced individuals primed to breeze well at sales.
Training
Ballyhane is fully equipped with fantastic facilities to train racehorses, with horse walkers, lunge rings, indoor and outdoor sand arenas, turn out paddocks and half mile of private roadway for hacking and roadwork, and a five furlong sand and fibre gallop.
