This year’s inaugural running of the Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes race certainly looks an exciting one since the release of declarations yesterday. With 20 runners taking their place this Sunday at Naas and €320,000 up for grabs in the focal race, alongside €80,000 in prize money for a consolation race on the same card, it certainly looks like it will be a competitive debut for the richest race at Naas!
Declarations have revealed a field of very exciting runners including Gr. 3 placed Chief Little Hawk and course and distance winner Giorgio Vasari. English contenders for the race include two Karl Burke trained winning juveniles Rebel At Dawn and Inhaler, who are eligible if they win to collect a €50,000 bonus being by Ballyhane Sires Dandy Man and Elzaam. On the back of two second place finishes at Gr. 2 level last month, talented colt Devious Company will also run for UK based trainer Tom Dascombe.

Major Prizes on offer at Naas this Sunday.
The Jack Davison trained Mooniesta will also take her chance, with the opportunity of winning the €50,000 bonus, being by stalwart stallion to the stud Dandy Man. Fellow Kildare based trainer Johnny Murtagh has two runners lining up in the race including Measure of Magic and recent maiden winner Amazed By Grace, taking her place on the back of a win just six days ago. Plenty more exciting maiden winning and placed contenders will run from a host of other yards like Ger Lyons, Jessica Harrington, Kevin Prendergast, Fozzy Stack and Jim Bolger so it is all to be played for this coming Sunday at Naas.
This evening will see the reveal of competitors for the Lockdown Heroes competition being run in conjunction with the Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes. Each of the 20 Lockdown Heroe’s will be assigned a horse in the Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes and the winner will receive the use of a Colm Quinn BMW for a week, a four-night luxury break for two adults and two children at the Heritage, Killenard in County Laois and €2,000 spending money. There will also be prizes for the hero whose horses are placed in the race from the Osprey Hotel, O’Callaghan Hotel Collection, Weatherbys GSB and the Irish National Stud, and luxury goody bags for the remaining lockdown heroes. We are delighted to see the Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes being used as part of a fantastic initiative to show appreciation to the great work people have done to support others throughout Covid- 19 and lockdown.

Lockdown Heroes will be in the race for big prizes at the EBF Ballyhane Stakes on August 23rd.
